Cinema in the Eye of the Collector conference

TECHNÈS organised the conference “Cinema in the Eye of the Collector,” which was held from 4 to 8 June 2017 at the Cinémathèque québécoise. Convened by André Habib (Université de Montréal), Philippe Marion (Université catholique de Louvain), Louis Pelletier (Université de Montréal/Université Concordia) and Jean-Pierre Sirois-Trahan (Université Laval), this conference invited researchers working in various disciplines (cinema studies, communications, archival studies, art history, museum studies, etc.), along with collectors, curators and archivists, to illuminate different approaches to the unique contribution of collectors to cinema aesthetics and history du cinéma, as well as epistemological and historiographical questions around constituting, preserving and using collections.
This international conference was organised in collaboration with GRAFICS, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Faculté des arts et des sciences – Université de Montréal, the Faculté des lettres et sciences humaines, Université Laval,HORS CHAMPand the Cinématheque québécoise.
