On Tuesday, 19 February 2019, the Montreal section of the doctoral committee was the guest of D-BOX Technologies, a Quebec company working in sound and virtual reality and which is known in particular for move theatre seats with an immersive motion technology. Following a demonstration, a very interesting discussion took place with several of the company’s executives in charge of developing and testing these immersive systems. This meeting followed a reading group meeting of 22 January 2019 at which Philippe Bédard, a Ph.D. student supervised by Richard Bégin at the Université de Montréal, spoke about technological innovation in movie theatres by way of comments on the introduction (entitled “Moving Machines”) to the book Cinematic Appeals: The Experience of New Movie Technologies by Ariel Rogers.
