Panel discussion – Launch of the Encyclopaedia of Cinema Techniques and Technologies, 2 July 2022, Bologna
- On 22 June 2022
As part of the Il Cinema Ritrovato film festival, being held in Bologna from 25 June to 3 July, the team of the TECHNÈS partnership is pleased to present the world premiere of the first twenty-seven thematic parcours from the Encyclopaedia of Cinema Techniques and Technologies, a bilingual (English/French) open access digital resource.
The parcours of the Encyclopaedia, whose preparation involved more than seventy researchers in various countries, takes up topics as varied as the evolution of motion picture cameras, the transformation of cinema trades and amateur practices, the discourses around technique and technology, etc. Work on the thematic parcours will continue over the coming months.
Through scholarly texts and the numerous written and visual documents which make it up, the aim of the Encyclopaedia is to preserve cinema’s memory. The materials which structure these documents (patents, filmed demonstrations and interviews, 3D digitizing of film equipment, etc.) are indexed in a standardized manner in a database, also open access. Finally, the ambition of the Encyclopaedia is to become an indispensable documentation, study and discovery tool for people who are passionate about cinema techniques and technology, whether they are specialists or not.
To mark the launch of the Encyclopaedia, the TECHNÈS team is organizing a panel discussion to be held on Saturday 2 July in the DAMSLab Auditorium, Via Azzo Giardino 65, Bologna.
This event is part of the 2022 FIAF Restoration Summer School.
