TECHNÈS Young Creators Award
- On 6 December 2018
Cinema’s entry into the third millennium took place under the sign of technological upheaval. The boundaries between media are now increasingly diffuse and “relocated cinema” has come closer to the worlds of television, video, the Web and other platforms. TECHNÈS, the international research partnership on cinema techniques and technologies, is devoted to the study of these changes. On the strength of this association of its partners, including three universities (Université de Montréal, Université Rennes 2 and Université de Lausanne) and several film schools (the École de cinéma et arts de Lausanne, the École nationale supérieure des métiers de l’image et du son in Paris and the Institut national de l’image et du son in Montreal), TECHNÈS is proud to announce its creation award.
The competition is open to any work (film, webfilm, installation, immersive or interactive form, audiovisual walk, etc.) which addresses image and sound technologies and their connection to the creative process in a bold manner. Two kinds of project will be considered: works whose subject explicitly addresses the question of technology, and works whose creation led to the use of an innovative technology without this necessarily being a theme of the work.
Eligibility and submission guidelines
The competition is open to all students at the universities and film schools in the TECHNÈS partnership having completed their program of studies within the past two years, that is to say from the calendar year 2016. To participate, please send us a link providing us with access to the film or, in the case of installations or audiovisual walks, to a complete dossier contextualising the work (PDF format). Submissions must be made before 31 October 2018.
Prize:
The winner of the grand prize will receive $1500 CAD. To the extent that this is possible, a screening in one of the project’s partner cinémathèques may be arranged.
Announcement of the prize winner:
The winning work will be announced in January 2019 by an international jury made up of members of TECHNÈS’ partner universities and institutions.
To participate, please consult the text of call and the official competition poster.
