On Ap 2017, TECHNÈS organised, in collaboration with the Centre de recherche universitaire sur les humanités numériques (CRIHN), the Canada Research Chair in Film and Media Studies and the Canada Research Chair on Digital Textualities, a panel discussion on The Encyclopaedia in the Digital Age.

This panel discussion was an opportunity to discuss one of the key missions of the TECHNÈS partnership, the creation of a digital and bilingual (English and French) encyclopaedia of cinema techniques and technologies.

The TECHNÈS panel discussion was followed by a lecture by Jeffrey Schnapp of Harvard University entitled Knowledge Design.

Earlier that day, Jeffrey Schnapp had participated in Marcello Vitali-Rosati seminar L’archive éditorialisée: de la ressource originale à l’appropriation.

The TECHNÈS international research partnership is rethinking the history of cinema and the methods of writing it by interrogating the techniques and technologies which have accompanied the medium since its beginnings. The fruit of an unprecedented collaboration between researchers, archivists and technicians, TECHNÈS employs a broad range of innovative tools and methods in order to explore, preserve and disseminate cinema techniques, technology and knowledge.
